Police confirms rescue of kidnapped victim, killing suspects in Abia

ABA- A kidnap gang which has been terrorising residents of Aba and environs has been shot dead by the Omoba Police Division, at Ovungwu community, Isiala-Ngwa South council area of Abia State.

Vanguard gathered that the gang had on 18th July, 2017, abducted the Managing Director of Mba Hotels, Aba, Onyemaechi Mbamaonyeukwu Ijeoma and held him hostage in an uncompleted building at Umuajuju Ovungwu, while negotiating for ransom.

Acting on a tip off, the Police team swooped on the kidnappers’ den where the gang opened fire on sighting them. In the ensuing gunfire, two of the kidnappers later identified as Nwadibia and Monday, were shot dead while others escaped with bullet wounds. The victim was rescued unhurt and one of the Policemen sustained injuries.

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leye Oyebade, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the victim has been reunited with his family, even as the injured Policeman is now receiving medical attention.

The CP listed items recovered from the gang to include the victim’s Nissan Infinity Jeep, 2 motorcycles and 4 GSM phones and enjoined residents of the state to volunteer information to the Police about anyone found with bullet wounds.
