Badagry (Lagos State) – A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday slammed a N100,000 bail on a 29-year-old man, Samuel Ajose, charged with stealing four cartons of Malta Guiness.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, in granting the accused bail, said he should also produce a surety in like sum.

Ajose, who resides at No 24, Kappo St., Idale, Badagry, allegedly stole the cartons of Malta Guiness worth N14,000 while the complainant, one Mrs Jessica Adenike, stepped out of her shop.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 19, at Nifemi Shopping Complex, Ibereko, Badagry.

“The accused went into the shop because there was no one there; he carted away four cartons of canned Malta from the shop.

“He was caught while he was about to load the last one into the boot of his vehicle by some of the complainant’s neighbours and handed over to the police,” he said.

Ikem said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.

The case has been adjourned till Aug. 15 for mention. (NAN)
