20 prospective candidates were and all candidates of the National Conscience Party, NCP were, however, shut from the list that was made public at the commission’s Yaba headquarters.
The release of the list elicited a huge crowd of politicians and their supporters who thronged the commission’s office to confirm the validation or otherwise of those they are supporting or opposing.
Remarkably, there was no candidate listed for any of the political parties for Odi-Olowo Local Council Development Area(LCDA) apparently on account of last Friday’s High Court ruling which invalidated the candidates approved by the All Progressives Congress, APC for the area on account of the court’s assertion that the primaries were not valid.
It is a development that is bound to elicit controversy as the court only invalidated the primaries for the APC and did not affect any other political party.
Aina Gold who is popular in the Yoruba Home Video genre was confirmed by LASIEC as the Alliance for Democracy (AD) Chairmanship candidate in Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA.
Many of the 20 invalidated were barred because of failure to produce tax clearance certificates or their resumes.
The commission’s sources, however, say that some of them could still be cleared if they present their correct documents.
The absence of candidates of the NCP was being traced to the court action instituted by the party against LASIEC following the decision of the commission to demand administrative charges from the parties participating in the election.
The case is yet to be concluded.
