Grazing Bill: Taraba House advocates awareness campaign

By John Mkom

Jalingo—The Ad Hoc Committee on Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment set up by Taraba State House of Assembly has called on the state government to create more awareness on the Bill, saying it had been well received by the three senatorial zones of the state.

Chairman of the committee, Mark Useni, made the call yesterday while presenting the committee’s report, which was adopted by the House.

The committee had earlier conducted public hearing on the bill across the three senatorial districts of the state and collected 91 oral and written memoranda from individuals, groups, organisations and governments before submissions.

Laying the report on floor of the House, Useni sought the resolution of members to prevail on the executive arm to give six months grace after implementation of the law for proper awareness of the bill.

According to him, those who resisted the Bill did so out of ignorance of what it meant.

Adopting the report, Speaker of the Assembly, Peter Diah, commended the committee and promised that the House will not waste time to take the bill to third reading for speedy passage, since the public hearing was successful.
