Benue community threatens contractors with snakes over cargo airport

By Peter Duru

MAKURDI—RESIDENTS of Nyiev, the host community of the proposed Benue Cargo Airport in Guma Local Government Area of the state, have threatened to unleash snakes on anyone who diverts the compensation due them.

This was made known yesterday by the state Commissioner for Works, Transport and Energy, Mr. Emmanuel Manager, while speaking on the issues delaying the full take off of the project.

Manager said: “The issue of compensation is still being sorted out between government and the community. At the moment, valuations are still being compiled by both parties.

“The people are not joking with the issue of compensation and have vowed not to allow anybody shortchange them in that respect. They have vowed to send snakes after anyone who tries to short change them.

“But I can assure you that government is sorting out the issue to ensure that whatever is due the people get to them.”
