PORT HAR-COURT— Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has called on government at all levels in the country to place agriculture above politics if the nation is to witness growth in the sector.
He spoke yesterday at Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when, alongside his Minister of State, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Nyesom Wike.
He said that they were in the state for the national council of agriculture gathering to be attended by all Commissioners of Agriculture in the country.
Urging state governments to develop the agriculture sector to enhance youth participation, Chief Ogbeh said that the state has the capacity to produce fish for the entire nation.
Governor Wike, while welcoming them to the state, also drummed up support for investment in the agriculture sector.
He said: “If Nigeria must move to the next level, agriculture is key. To reduce unemployment, we must focus on agriculture. We are developing the cassava factory to improve the commercial farming of the product. We are also working with a private company to revive our rubber factory.”
Wike said that his administration was working with private investors to strengthen the sector, adding that the government would also collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to build the sector in the state.
