CALABAR—Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC, yesterday,  donated drugs, cash and other items to victims of the Calabar viewing centre electrocution incident at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH.

Regional Manager of the company, Mr Joseph Aikowe, said that the gesture was to fulfil the promise made by the Group Managing Director when he visited the hospital.

He said that the money, which amount was undisclosed, was for the patients’ feeding.

Other items donated include honey, beverages, gloves, bottles of water and standing fans.

Aikowe said: “We are here to make some donations to the hospital management that will be transmitted to the patients for their wellbeing.

“Even though the government has promised to offset the bills, as a responsible organisation, we felt it was necessary for us to play our part in alleviating the sufferings of the people affected by this incident.”

Chief Medical Director of UCTH, Dr Thomas Agan, appreciated the gesture and promised to ensure that the items were fully used for the benefit of the patients.
