Over 100 students drawn from public schools around the mainland part of Lagos State will be participating in a three-day Triathlon clinic at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. The event which will be organised by the Nigeria Triathlon Union with the support of ExxonMobil will commence April 11 to 13.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, President of the NTU, Dr Lanre Glover said the clinic was meant to introduce the kids to the basics of the multi-discipline sport at their early age.
Glover, who was represented by a member of the NTU Board and Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Babatunde Fatai Williams told journalists that the union was bent on entrenching the tenets of the sport in the young athletes in order to sustain the momentum already built over the years.
“Triathlon is a 3-in-1 sport. The first discipline is swimming, then running and cycling. The kids have to be taken on all these. We are trying to popularise the sport among the kids.
“We have had workshops with students from private schools and games masters in the past and this time we want to spread it to students and games masters from public schools. After this, we will take it to other states,” Glover said.
