ENUGU— President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has congratulated the Governors of South-East for the bold step they are now taking to address the detention of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
The president-general who stated this in Enugu, said this decision had shown that the South East governors have now fully come on stream and this will give Ndigbo a great leap.
He also congratulated them for their decision to set up a joint economic team for the development of the zone.
The Ohanaeze president-general noted that he would soon hold a meeting with all Igbo journalists and editors to encourage them to cover news from Igboland with zeal and commitment. He also vowed to address the recent Abuja High court judgment on the gruesome murder of six Igbo traders . He lamented that the real culprits in the matter were set free and those they ordered to do the shooting were condemned to death.
He said: “There is more than meets the eye over the matter. Many years after more than 50 bodies of young men were discovered in Ezu River in Anambra State, their killers are yet to be fished out.”
Chief Nwodo noted that he would soon meet with all Igbo senior lawyers and Igbo senior journalists with other Nigerian senior lawyers that are arbiters of justice to take up the Apo Six matter, the Ezu River killings and other cases of extra judicial killings in Nigeria, especially against Ndigbo.
Chief Nwodo maintained that “the only way forward for Nigeria is restructuring of the country and we can never run away from it. It is the only desideratum for lasting peace in the country,
“How can the South-East have only five states and 95 local government areas whereas the North-West has seven states and more then 250 local government areas? How can Kano State have 44 local government areas whereas Lagos State that is at par or more in population than Kano have 20 local governments areas?”
