WARRI—A CIVIL society group, Environmental and Rural Mediation Centre, ENVIRUMEDIC, yesterday, blamed the increasing price of garri and other essential farm produce in Delta State on the government’s pervasive agriculture policies and menace of herdsmen against smallholder farmers.

At a briefing in Warri, Delta State, to express disappointment at the state’s 0.45 per cent in its 2017 budget allocation for agriculture, the group on public financing of agriculture, accused Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of deliberately rendering the state Ministry of Agriculture redundant with poor allocation while needed fund is directed to the Chief Job Creation Office.

“We found out that the Job Creation Office’s selection process is partisan and targets political farmers, most of who sell their empowerment packages at the point of benefit.”
