A major disaster was averted, yesterday, evening at the popular Toyota Junction along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, when a truck laden with 33,000 litres diesel went up in flames.
The incident occurred at about 5.30p.m. outward Mile 2, when the truck, with number plates TUT 258 XA, belonging to a petroleum company, crashed into a BMW car with number plates LSD 462 CZ, spilled its content, which later went up in flames.
The prompt intervention of emergency responders saved the situation, as residents were quickly alerted to prevent further damages.
At press time, it could not be ascertained if both drivers escaped unhurt, but the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu, said there was no loss of life.
The incident led to traffic gridlock on the axis for awhile. At 6.30p.m., recovery operation was on going at the scene by the men of the Lagos State Fire Service and LASEMA Response Team.
