Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has urged Nigerians, especially motorists, to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations during the Easter celebrations.
Oyeyemi, according to a statement by spokesman of the Corps, Mr Bisi Kazeem, gave the advice in his Easter message to the nation.
He said that noticeable cases of speed-related road traffic accidents in the country called for concerted efforts by all concerned to avoid death and injuries that characterised festive periods.
“The Corps Marshal specially identified the Abuja-Kaduna road as one of the corridors where recurrence of speed-induced crashes is still worrisome, thereby undermining the safety campaigns of the Corps.
“He, however, assures that appropriate measures are being taken to address the menace,’’ Kazeem said.
Oyeyemi said that adequate personnel and logistics had been mobilised and 104 commands identified as part of strategies for effective management of traffic during the celebrations.
He explained that all Zebra formations/Road Traffic Crash Clinics as well as necessary rescue and enforcement logistics of the FRSC had been deployed.
This, he said, was to ensure that the agency’s 15-minute response time to distress calls was achieved.
“He has directed all the FRSC field commands to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure effective management of traffic during the period.
“Oyeyemi appeals to members of the public to immediately report emergencies to the FRSC Call Centre through its Toll-Free line: 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC-0700-2255-3772 for prompt response,’’ Kazeem said.
