Auchi monarch donates 5,000 hectares of land to FG for farming

BENIN—OTARU of Auchi Kingdom, HRH Alhaji Aliru Momoh, Ikelebe III, Edo State, has announced the donation of 5,000 hectares of arable farmland to the Federal Government for agricultural purposes.

HARVEST: Women with baskets of tomatoes harvested from farmlands provided under the Restoring Agricultural Assets of IDPs, Returnees and Vulnerable Host Families in NorthEast Nigeria project, put together by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations; the UN Central Emergency Response Fund and the governments of Ireland, Japan and Belgium.

He disclosed that the 5,000 hectares was part of the community’s effort to support the Federal Government’s agricultural revolution.

A statement in Benin,  yesterday by Alhaji Usman Abudah, the Dania of Auchi Kingdom, said that the Otaru, while speaking at a meeting with village heads and palace chiefs,  urged those he termed mischief makers to desist from playing politics with every issue in the country.

He said that his community was awaiting for the Federal Government’s delegation to inspect the 5,000 hectares of farmland, adding that the land was meant for crops such as groundnut, maize, cassava and other economic crops.

The Otuaru called on all the 25 village heads in the kingdom to encourage their wards towards going back to agriculture and boost food security.
