PORT HAR-COURT— Senator Magnus Abe has assured people of his Rivers South-East senatorial district that the Ogoni clean-up, Bodo-Bonny Road, Andoni/Oyigbo Power projects and water projects in the district are all captured in the 2017 appropriation bill.
Abe also disclosed that the completion of the East-West Road had also received the needed attention, adding that the Federal Government has good intentions for the people of his senatorial district.
Speaking as a guest in a radio programme, Insight, in Port Harcourt, weekend, Abe said that he was working with various relevant committees and ministries to ensure that the projects were captured appropriately in the budget.
He explained that the projects would benefit Rivers State and Nigeria at large and commended the Federal Ministry of Works for prioritizing the said projects.
Abe, who assured that he will ensure the commencement and completion of the projects, said: “I was talking with some friends the other day about the Ogoni clean-up. We have worked on that and we are still working on it. In this year’s budget, total provision of over $190 million had been made.”
“It is supposed to be $200m and we are still pushing for it to be made $200m for the take-off of the clean-up project for the year. That is part of what Shell Petroleum Development Company is to contribute for the clean-up exercise for the year.
“I am also working with the Senate Committee on Power to try to create impact of the power project in the senatorial district particularly in Oyigbo LGA of Rivers State. We are also trying to expand the power project in Andoni LGA as part of our constituency project this year.”
