Nigerians were Tuesday deported from Italy . The deportees numbering 40 arrived the cargo section of the Muritala Muhammed Airport , Lagos aboard a chartered plane, Air Meridiana , with the registration number E1-FNU at about 8.30pm.
The deportees were said to have committed immigration and criminal offences.
The deportation is coming barely four days after the United Kingdom Government repatriated 23 Nigerians for similar offences.
The yesterday’s deportees comprised of adult males and females. According to the Immigration official 39 of the deportees were returned because of immigration offences while one, a male was returned because of his involvement in drug related matters.
The official further said that the returnee with drug related issues would be handed over to police for further prosecution . The other 39 were profiled by the officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service attached to the airport.
The deportees were shielded from speaking to the media by some security officials at the airport .
This is the Sixth deportation of Nigerians from different countries in recent times.
