LOKOJA—There was pandemonium, yesterday, in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, following the death of a young man identified as Mohammed Suberu in the swimming pool of one of the most prestigious hotels in the town.

It was gathered that friends and colleagues of the deceased invaded the premises of the hotel to protest the young man’s death.

Suberu’s body was said to have been found floating in the swimming pool located in phase two area of Lokongoma.

The deceased was said to have gone to the hotel to swim yesterday morning, only for his corpse to be found floating in the pool.

The development was said to have led to chaos as security men attached to the hotel and other members of staff ran for cover.

The body was later taken to the state specialist hospital, Lokoja, where he was confirmed dead.

But the atmosphere became tense when friends and colleagues of the deceased invaded the premises of the hotel to protest Suberu’s death.

The youths, who attacked the workers and property of the hotel, said similar events happened twice in the hotel last year, when two middle-aged men reportedly drowned in the swimming pool on different occasions.

The hotel’s General Manager said he could not speak on the incident until he got clearance from the owner of the hotel.

He confirmed that the issue was being handled by the police, stressing that such occurrence was not peculiar to the hotel; and wondered why it is being blown out of proportion.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Kogi State Command, William Aya, while confirming the development, said the police had already commenced investigation over Suberu’s death.
