Murder: Suspects’ll be charged to court after investigation — Ebonyi Police

By Peter Okutu

ABAKALIKI—EBONYI State Police Command, yesterday, said the case of a woman, Mrs. Catherine Chukwu, who was kidnapped and murdered some weeks ago, is still under investigation contrary to the views expressed by some people in the state.

It will be recalled that the deceased, an indigene of Ishiagu community in Ivo Local Government Area of the state, was on January 18, 2017 abducted from her residence and later killed and buried by her assailants in a shallow grave located in a forest bordering Lokpanta in Umunneochi and Awgu Local Government Areas of Abia and Enugu states.

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Jude Madu, said at the end of police investigation, the suspects would be charged to court as investigation into the matter was still ongoing.

“No stone will be left unturned until all the suspects are arrested. They will be prosecuted,” he said.

Plot by politicians to release suspects

Meanwhile, a non governmental organisation, Concerned Ohanivo Movement for Good Governance, COMGG, has given Ebonyi State Police Command a-72 hour ultimatum to parade and prosecute the suspects arrested in connection with the kidnap and murder of Chukwu in a forest.

In a statement in Abakaliki, National President of the group, Mr Anthony Ukah, who thanked the police for their determination to get to the root of the dastardly incident, called on the command to maintain professionalism in discharging its constitutional role to the public as some politicians in the current administration were making efforts to see to the release of the prime suspect in the criminal matter.
