Degree no longer a ticket to guarantee employment, LASU VC counsel graduates

Prof. Olarenwaju Fagbohun, Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, on Wednesday urged graduates of the institution to use the knowledge they acquired to develop the nation.

Fagbohun made the call at the 21st convocation ceremony of the university.

LASU graduated a total 28,433 students with 26 of them graduating with first class, while 133 were awarded diplomas.

“I urge you to use your brains and capacities to the full. Remember our golden prefix, “We are LASU, we are proud’’. Never ever be on the wrong side of the book.

“You are aware that a degree is no longer a ticket to guarantee employment. You are, therefore, implored to continually build yourself while maintaining excellence in your tasks,” he said.

Fagbohun said that the university would continue to produce highly-skilled manpower by nurturing young men and women who would positively impact on the society.

“I wish to assure this gathering that our processes of quality assurance have been quite rigorous and robust; for this, we must commend our world-class graduates.

“We have institutionalised the quality assurance office to teaching and research discovery, and we are not resting on our oars.”

He described the graduates as repositories of knowledge capable of facing the challenges of the 21st century.

“Do not let whatever negative experiences you might have had as students define your relationship with the university.

“Rather, let it galvanise you to want to give back to the school and the society”.
