Steve James, former President of the Guild of Nigerian Dancers (GOND) on Wednesday appealed for support from the Federal and state governments for an enabling environment for dancers to excel.

James told newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos that such support would boost the morale of dancers and enhance the profile of dance in Nigeria.

He said further that sponsorship was very vital for the Guild to further engender interest at the grassroots.

“It is so sad that government is talking about promotion of all arts and maybe exporting them, but nothing seems to improve in the sector,’’ James alleged.

“It will help to engage restive youths meaningfully and provide employment opportunities.’’

“In a country of about 170 million people, there are no befitting dance studios, not even in our tertiary institutions where we churn out dance graduates yearly.

“Although Dance has improved in Nigeria, more still needed to be done,” he said.
