PORT HAR-COURT— Acting President Yemi Osibanjo has lauded Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for projects executed by his administration so far.
According to a Government House statement, the acting President spoke at a state banquet in his honour on Monday night, saying that Osibanjo was impressed with the projects sites he visited.
The acting President also said the governor deserved the sobriquet, Mr Project.
“I think he deserves the title, ‘Mr Projects.’ He is indeed Mr Projects. As we came in today, we had to visit some project sites.
“Rivers State is very important to us. We take matters concerning the state seriously. We will cooperate with the state to develop Nigeria.
“It is in the interest of our people and nation that we work together for the good of our people. We need to get together to chart the pathway to growth,” the acting President said.
Meanwhile, Governor Wike, yesterday, expressed gratitude to God for making him governor at a time the state was 50 years old, stressing that power belonged to God.
The governor, who spoke when he received a decamping leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area of the state, Chief Ofili Enebeli and his supporters at the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Port Harcourt, said some persons had boasted that over their dead bodies would he be governor of the state.
The governor said he was impressed that the acting President corrected a false impression organisers of a forum of the APC, yesterday, in the state wanted to create that the forum was another stakeholders meeting of Rivers people with the acting President.
He said when the acting President held the microphone at the event, the first thing he did was to echoe the slogan of his party, saying that he came to see his APC family. “Their faces changed. Some people will never be happy.”
Continuing, the governor said the state was the first place the acting President slept since he started his tour, adding that it was clear he was satisfied with the peace in Rivers State.
“This is the only state where the acting President agreed to sleep. We thank him for that. He said this state is peaceful. You know, satan will never sleep. Satan will always want to turn everything that is light to darkness. The acting President came, held meetings with all stakeholders in the state. Even the Minister of Transportation was there. They came later to say Mr acting President must talk to his people.”
Urging members of his party to remain calm and peaceful in the face of provocations, the governor said it was a shame that some opposition politicians in the state could condemn the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the state for conferring on him, the Apostle of Peace award, promising to continue to promote peace in the state.
Chief Enebeli, who decamped to the PDP, led hundreds of his supporters to his new party.
