FUT Minna students go berserk as 200 level colleague dies playing football

MINNA—A 300 level student of Federal University of Technology,Minna, Niger state, Yeye Emmanuel Olalekan, reportedly died while playing football at the Bosso Campus of the University.

The deceased, who was said to be hale and hearty before going to the pitch, was a student of the Department of Chemistry Education, School of Science and Technology Education, SSTF).

It was gathered that the management at the institution’s clinic demanded for the Identity Card of the deceased before he could be treated and the student gave up the ghost while still waiting for the ID card.

Angered by the development, the students were said to have mobilised and razed down the Clinic.

Late Yeye, who hailed from Ekiti Local government area of Kwara state, was said to have slumped while playing football and was immediately rushed to the University Clinic at the Bosso Campus where he was certified dead.

The Corpse of the 23 year old former student has been deposited at the Minna General Hospital Mortuary.

The University Authority after an emergency meeting yesterday sent the students from the two campuses— Bosso and Gidan Kwano— packing to forestall further eventuality.

Contacted, the University Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Lydia Legbo, who confirmed the incident, said the students were actually asked to go on their normal Semester break of two weeks and are expected to resume in two weeks time.

She said the school authority had met and set up an investigative panel to investigate what led to the death of the deceased just as it had also sent condolence message to the parents of the deceased.
