NIGERIA’s youth-friendly telecommunication company, Etisalat, took its newly-signed brand ambassador and singer, Simisola Ogunleye (best known as Simi), to two schools in Lagos where she inspired pupils to always show genuine love to fellow human beings as part of activities to commemorate this year’s Valentine’s Day celebrated globally on Tuesday, February 14.
The two schools were Princeton Schools, Surulere and one of the Etisalat-adopted schools, Akande Dahunsi Senior High School, Ikoyi. During the visit, both Simi and the Etisalat team interacted with pupils of the schools and also gave out Cliqlite tabs, which have been pre-loaded with approved syllabus, textbooks and interactive educational videos among several other gifts.
Simi also entertained them by performing some of her hit tracks such as Jamb Question and Soldier, and encouraged the pupils to be generous and kind to people around them and to follow their dreams. “Love is about being selfless. You are not too young to dream. In whatever you do, be persistent and don’t allow anybody make you give up on your dreams,” Simi charged the pupils.
After a quiz competition at each of the schools, Opeoluwa Abudu, Grade five pupil of Princeton Schools, emerged winner and went home with a Cliqlite tab, while Tajudeen Lawal, a senior secondary school at Akande Dahunsi High School, also won a Cliqlite tab. Speaking on the significance of the school visit, Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Etisalat Nigeria, Oyetola Oduyemi, said the visit to the two schools was a display of Etisalat’s love for education and commitment to improving learning conditions and creating easy access to the educational materials.
Oduyemi said, “We at Etisalat chose to bring our new Brand Ambassador, Simi, to these schools on Valentine’s Day to show love and share gifts with the pupils and teachers. We have done a lot to promote education because we believe it is crucial for national development.
By also giving out free Cliqlite tabs, we aim to enhance e-learning and help to prepare Nigerian youth so they can compete favourably with the rest of the world.” Speaking on behalf of their colleagues, Abudu and Lawal expressed gratitude to Etisalat for the kind gesture and said the Cliqlite tabs will truly enhance their education by giving them easy access to lots of educational materials.
Abudu, who answered three Cliqlite-related questions correctly, said, he knew answers to the questions because he had been listening to Cliqlite Fun Tease on radio. “All this while, I’ve been hoping that one day I will get the Cliqlite tab. I’m very happy today, that I’ve won the tab. It will really help me to learn more. I say thank you to Etisalat,” he said.
