Edo APC suspends Vice Chairman, Central, Inegbeneki, others

BENIN—Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has suspended the state’s Vice Chairman (Central) of the party, Chief Henry Okoror, Chief Francis Inegbeneki and four others over alleged attack on the state chairman of the party, Mr Anslem Ojezua.

The party also ratified the change of leadership in Oredo Local Government Area, just as it announced the replacement of the Youth Leader of the party in the state, Osakpanwa Eriyo, with Valentine Asuen.

In a statement at the end of a State Working Committee meeting of the party in Benin City, the state chairman of the party, Ojezua, disclosed that a committee will be set up to investigate what he described as unruly behaviour of the party leaders who were suspended in Edo Central, alleging that the party leaders held the chairman of the party hostage at the residence of the Vice Chairman Central, Chief Okoror.

“A committee headed by the state Secretary, Chief Osaro Idah, has been set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident and submit a report in one month. The committee is also vested with the duty to look into all pending matters arising from the reports from the local government chapters in relation to the last governorship election and make appropriate recommendations,”  he stated.

But reacting, Chief Inegbeneki described his purported suspension as nonsensical, saying: “I am being victimized because of my petition against the state chairman of the party that he worked for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu during the election. All these allegations that we held him hostage is rubbish because nobody held him hostage. He is using the state working committee to victimize my supporters but we will resist it because we are innocent.”
