Cleric promises to pay WAEC, NECO registration fees for inmates in Nasarawa state

Bishop Emmanuel Musa-Jatau, Head of Faith Hill Prophetic Assembly, Abuja, has promised to pay WAEC and NECO registration fees for prison inmates in Nasarawa state.

Musa-Jata, who made the promise on Friday when he visited Lafia prison in commemoration of his 54th birthday, explained that the gesture was targeted at inmates interested in pursuing their education.

The cleric, therefore, requested the prison management to compile the names of inmates in the state and forward them to him, in good time, for further action.

“We need the names of even those who have secured admission or are seeking admission into the National Open University of Nigeria,“ he said.

He further said that the Church would supply drugs to the prison clinic regularly, to ensure that the inmates get proper medical attention.

The Bishop challenged the inmates to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire skills that would make them self reliant and employable at the end of their jail term.

“If all of you learn one skill or the other or acquire higher education while in prison, I assure you that by the time you are out of here, you will become productive and would not want to go back to crime again,” he said.

Mr Ekwere Ekanem, the State Comptroller of Prisons, promised to provide the church with the information needed to fast-track the realisation of the Bishop’s gesture.

Ekanem urged other spirited individuals in the society to emulate the bishop by coming to the aid of inmates in whatever way they could.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Musa-Jatau also donated some food items, toiletries, many Bibles and sporting equipment to the inmates.
