Nigeria has no excuse not to benefit from tourism—Avantgarde Tour boss

By Gabriel Olawale

The Managing Director , Avantgarde Tours, Mr. Efetobo Awhana,  said that the excuses of insecurity, infrastructures among others often touted by some people were  not enough reasons  for Nigeria not to sell tourism.

Speaking at the launch of ‘Naijaholidays’ an online booking site, Awhana noted that all the thriving and successful tourism destinations around the world have one form of challenge or the other.

“Recently I read about the number of death recorded in Chicago from crime in the last two years, it outnumbers what we have here in Lagos with wide margin. Then the question becomes how are we carrying our own narrative, which story are we telling the world.

“We don’t hear of United State of America as a terrible country; however South Africa has worst reputation of security than Nigeria,  but still record highest revenue from tourism in Africa. I was in Nairobi few days before President Obama visit and they were patching their roads. The point am making is that we don’t have excuse not to sell tourism in this country.”

Awhana explained that the ‘Naijaholidays’ was launched with the aim of making booking tour around Nigeria lot easier and comes with exciting tour options and great convenience for tourist.

“This new online booking site will give tourists a chance to easily find tour packages around Nigeria. Choosing affordable and memorable travel options for honeymoons, family holidays, group and team-building tours, and educational tours can now be done at the comforts of one’s phone or computer.”

“Before now it is almost impossible to go online and get information about tours in the Nigeria this makes Avantgarde Tour Limited and other reputable tour operators in the country to set up an online platform designed to sell tour packages.”

“The new website allows tourists to choose from several payment options powered by technology company, REMITA. They can pay using a card, make an online transfer or even take down the booking number and make payments at the bank.” he explained.
