ABUJA—The Federal Government, yesterday, filed a fresh 15-count charge against Justice Ademola Adeniyi of the Federal High Court Abuja and his wife, Olabowale.
Also named in the charge before Abuja High Court at Maitama preferred them by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, is another Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Joe Agi.
FG alleged that the Judge had, in the discharge of his official duties, received bribe from Agi to the tune of N38.5 million.
It told the court that Justice Ademola took the bribe and perverted the course of Justice.
The embattled Judge was alleged to have received the bribe money from the SAN through his wife who was hitherto the Head of Service in Lagos State.
FG said its investigations revealed that the illicit deal occurred between March 11 and 26, 2015, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court.
Agi was also alleged to have given a BMW Saloon 320i valued at N8.5 million to the judge through his son – Ademide Ademola, as gratification.
Meantime, all the accused persons will today take their plea before trial Justice Jude Okeke.
It will be recalled that FG had on December 13, docked Ademola and his wife on an 11-count charge, even as they were subsequently released on bail to the tune of N50m each.
The Judge and his wife had through their lawyers, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, and Chief Roberts Clarke, SAN, prayed the court to accelerate their trial, a request that was accordingly granted.
