Akure—AN eight-year-old primary school pupil (names withheld) has been shot dead by her 11-year-old friend (names withheld) while they were fiddling with the latter’s father’s hunting rifle in Ondo town, Ondo State.
The suspect and his father, a farmer, are presently in police custody.
Vanguard gathered that the primary school friends returned from school at about 1p.m., saw the double-barrelled gun where it was hung by the suspect’s father, and started to play with it.
It discharged, killing the girl instantly.
Police source informed Vanguard that the gunfire attracted neighbours, but that the victim died as she was shot at close range.
The deceased was taken to the state general hospital in Ondo town where she was confirmed dead with the corpse deposited at the morgue.
The police image-maker, Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect and his father are in police custody.
