Water truck crushes Enugu traditional ruler

Nsukka—THERE is confusion at Agbamere community in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State, following the death of its traditional ruler in an auto crash involving a water tanker truck and his Hyundai Elentra official car along Odenigbo Road in Nsukka town, Monday.

Vanguard gathered that the traditional ruler, HRH Igwe Patrick Ezugwu, had a head-on collision with the water tanker while returning from mechanic village, where he had gone to service his car.

The traditional ruler’s car, with number plates HRH 183, was crushed beyond recognition by the truck, with number plates XA405 ENU. Both vehicles were towed to the Nsukka Urban Police Division, while investigation is ongoing.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the traditional ruler allegedly swerved off his lane and ran into the tanker, which was heading to Odenigbo. The eyewitness said both vehicles rammed into St. Paul’s Cathedral’s fence.

People then rushed to the scene, pulled the traditional ruler out of the crumple car and rushed him to Bishop Sanahan Hospital, Nsukka, where he was confirmed dead few hours later.

Another source disclosed that the traditional ruler dozed off while driving, resulting in the crash.

Chairman of Nsukka traditio-nal ruler’s council, HRH Aloy Ezugwu, expressed shock over the death of Igwe Ezugwu, who until his death was the Public Relations Officer of the zonal council of traditional rulers.
