ASABA—DELTA State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has warned political office holders against identifying with praise singers and sycophants.
Okowa, who spoke at the N150 million Endowment Fund for Youth Development and Empowerment Programme by the senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, in Asaba, told politicians to be effective and accountable to their people.
Urging them to focus more on ensuring that they deliver on their promises to their constituents, he said that the people were vested with the responsibility of telling their leaders the truth at all times.
Maintaining that political office holders should take conscious steps towards putting smiles on the faces of their people especially in the yuletide, Okowa stressed the need for them to always identify and interact with their constituents instead of staying away from them.
He commended Senator Nwaoboshi for the empowerment programme, enjoining the beneficiaries to put the items and cash to judicious use as well as intensify their support and prayers for the federal lawmaker and the current administration.
Earlier in his remark while presenting the items, Senator Nwaoboshi vowed to partner Governor Okowa in building a transformed state, anchored on prosperity, security and human capital development, pointing out that the empowerment programme was targeted at giving back to the society and empowering his constituents.
