ABEOKUTA—Barely 36 days after the Ogun state governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun presented the 2017 budget proposal to the state Assembly, the House yesterday passed the budget christened ‘ budget of repositioning’ .

The governor who had presented a sum of N221.129 billion had his proposal slashed by about N38million by the Assembly.

The passage of the Bill followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation led by Hon. Akanbi Bankole, who thereafter moved the motion for its adoption, seconded by Hon Olayiwola Ojodu and supported by the whole House.

Vanguard gathered that the bill was passed with slight adjustments for some agencies which led to an increment of N107.500 million in the fund initially allocated for salaries which moved from N62.728 billion to N62.836 billion.

The Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, who later directed that the clean copy of the bill be sent to the Governor for his assent, commended his colleagues and the entire members of staff for their support and steadfastness in ensuring the passage of the bill.

Few minutes after the passage of the budget, the state governor signed the document into law.

The governor who signed the budget into law in his Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, office was however, hailed by the All Progressives Congress in the state for the recent payment of severance allowances of political office holders who served the previous opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government of Otunba Gbenga Daniel and others who served during his first term in office.

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Mr. Sola Lawal, the party described Amosun as a compassionate leader, concerned about the welfare of those who served the state, irrespective of the political party they belong.

The party said that Amosun has shown commitment to join Muhammadu Buhari’s Federal Government to draw the country out of recession.

“The significance of this cannot be over emphasised, as the Amosun administration has demonstrated commitment to eradicate poverty and improve the economic condition of the people.” the party added.
