In Nigeria, we forget our heritage, institutions— Osoba

By Providence Obuh

Former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, has said the problem with Nigeria is that she forgets her heritage and institutions.

Osoba, who spoke at the 40th Miss Nigeria beauty pageant grand finale in Lagos, commended the organisers “for keeping our memories alive.”

He said: “We would have been the forgotten ones save this event. Daily Times is an institution: the problem with Nigeria is that we forget our heritage and institutions.”

Also, Publisher of Daily Times, Mr. Fidelis Anosike, said beyond beauty, the pageant is an empowerment initiative for women.

He urged women to support Daily Times to become what it used to be, adding, “Miss Nigeria was a young female empowerment platform.

“Women are the ones that hold the ace, so a platform was created to honour them.”

Winner of the maiden edition of the pageant, Miss Nigeria 1957, 88-year-old Mrs Grace Oyelude, was at the event.
