Ohanaeze leadership, youths at war over election funds

By Anayo Okoli

UMUAHIA—SERIOUS crisis is brewing in the leadership of Ohanaeze following a cold war between the youth wing of the body, Ohanaeze Youth Council, and the parent body.

The bone of contention is the demand for accountability of a huge sum of money, allegedly doled out to the body by former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, for mobilisation of Igbo votes during the April 2015 elections.

The youth wing claimed that the parent body gave them pittance out of the alleged huge sum and is now asking the parent body to render account on how the money was utilised.

Also, ahead of 2019 general election, the youth wing is accusing the leadership of the parent body of supporting President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that it was working against anything that supports Buhari’s government.

They alleged that the leadership collected huge money from an unnamed politician to work against the Buhari administration.

Already the issues have pitched the leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation against the leaders of the youth wing, Ohanaeze Youth Council.
