ABEOKUTA—Motorists and commuters plying Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway may now heave a sigh of relief as the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, yesterday, began palliative measures to fix bad portions on the road.

The agency began the repairs from the Joju area filling up the craters which had been causing serious traffic jams on the road.

Speaking with newsmen at the site, the Progress Officer of the agency, Mr. Monday Olaogun disclosed that palliative repairs would be carried out on all the bad portions of the road.

He listed Joju, U-Turn, Ijoko, Owode, Iyana Ilogbo and Ilepa as areas mapped out for repair.

Olaogun explained that the construction work became necessary to ease the incessant gridlock on the busy expressway.

He said: “We are trying to repair the bad portion of the road. There are four gullies here at Joju, we are putting boulders to reinstate them to road level so that vehicles can have their way.

“We will lay the asphalt later. Now we want to make it motorable, so by the time we ease the traffic jams, we will come back for the asphalt laying.”

Motorists have been facing serious challenges on the bad portions of the road which are as deep as three feet, particularly when there’s downpour.
