BENIN—Edo State House of Assembly has called on the state Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities, Ministry of Transport and the Nigeria Police to urgently take steps to free the Kings Square, popularly known as Ring Road, and its environs of the menace of street trading.
The call was made during plenary under matters of urgent public importance raised by Mr Chris Okaeben, who lamented that street trading had resurfaced in the heart of the city, which, according to him, was making the city untidy, particularly now that Nigerians and members of the international community would be storming Benin City to witness the coronation of the Edaiken N’Uselu, Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa, as the new Oba of Benin.
“It is really disturbing, the way bus drivers drop passengers on the road. People hawk everywhere around the Ring Road and that has made the place filthy and unsightly. This is unacceptable, particularly now that we shall be hosting the entire world in a few days for the coronation of our Oba,” he said.
