Gov’s Cup Tennis: Ndanusa challenges Nigerians to excel

By John Egbokhan

President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Sani Ndanusa has challenged home players to make the most of increment in the prize money of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Futures, serving off today at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan

Speaking in Lagos, the NTF boss, while commending organisers for jerking up the prize money of the international point-awarding tournament from $80, 000 to $100, 000 for two weeks, said the increment was enough motivation for Nigerian players to hold their own against their peers from Europe, Asia and America.

According to Ndanusa, “it is important for our players to make the most of this increment in the prize money of the tournament to earn some points, which I insists should be the focus for our players”.

The former Minister of Sports and President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee said he was confident of an improved performance by Nigerian players, who stressed must take their destiny in their hands by playing every match at the ongoing tournament as the game of the lives.

In his own words, “the only reason foreign players are coming to Lagos is to earn some ranking points to climb the ladder, which for me is quite instructive for our players, who have a great chance to turn the table against these foreign players. We should commend the LOC of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis for increasing the prize money when this country is facing economic recession. We are much grateful for this, “ said Ndanusa.
