STUDENTS of Abia State University, ABSU have lauded the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Uche Ikonne and Management for setting up a radio station, 101.9 ABSU FM in the school.
Though the department of Mass Communication was recently de-listed by the National Universities Commission, NUC, for non accreditation of the departments, the development had since led to significant improvements in the Department and the entire institution.
According to the Technical Instructor of the Radio Station and Media , Mr. Udochukwu Ndukwe ‘’the official radio station is designed to complement component of mass communication studies for the benefit of the students, interact and reflect the uniqueness of Abia State University.’’
He added that it will help to train students practically so as to face the labour market after graduation.
He said: ‘’It is poised to inform, educate, entertain her listeners and to also raise the standard of the university in mass media broadcast and information . Ndukwe who expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for moving the department of Mass Communication to a new complex, noted that giving the University a face lift since his assumption of office last year was commendable.
Reacting to the development, a student in the department Osi Vincent said “The radio station is an ideal ratio station for broadcast, all thanks to our H.O.D , Dr Okugo and the School Management for helping us increase our knowledge and be good on air.
