Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr said he will be expecting Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi and U-23 striker Oghenekaro Etebo back into the squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against the Chipolopolo of Zambia October 3 in Lusaka.
Iwobi and Etebo did not make the Eagles team for the Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Tanzania last weekend due to injuries. But seeing the team struggle to find the back of the net against Taifa Stars, Rohr said it will be nice to see both players back into the fold.
“We need to look at the player in Arsenal (Iwobi)and the player who scored four goals in a match at the Olympics (Etebo),” the coach who has a mandate to qualify Nigeria for the 2018 World Cup from a tight group featuring Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria, said.
Rohr had his first day in office in Uyo. He disclosed that it was a good start.
“I’m happy I won my first match,” began Rohr. “We have a good chance of qualifying for the World Cup. A team that failed to qualify for the AFCON needs confidence and the confidence is coming back gradually.
“We played well and any team who created 12, 14 chances in a match, that tells you it’s a good team. We were wasteful but we will work on our finishing.”
