Ndokwa youths may resort to militancy, Delta APC LG chair warns

By Charles Kumolu

CHAIRMAN of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ukwuani Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr Dave Ochonogor, has warned that the alleged failure of Delta State Government to be fair to Ndokwa nation in the distribution of appointments and physical development considering its oil producing status, may force Ndokwa youths into militancy.

He regretted that Ndokwa nation was being given a meagre allocation by Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, saying that it was contrary to the law establishing the commission which specified how revenues accruing to the commission should be applied in developing the oil and gas producing areas.

Ochonogor, in a statement, said that the trend should be reversed to prevent the youths of the ethnic nationality from resorting to militancy like other ethnic groups in the Niger Delta region.

He said: “With the way the government of the day is going, I will not be surprised if the youths of Ndokwa ethnic nationality resort to militancy like other ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta.

When that happens, the governor of Delta State, Senator IfeanyiOkowa and the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachukwu should be blamed for it.

“More annoying is the way DESOPADEC is being run to the detriment of Ndokwa people. It is either that Governor Okowa does not understand the law establishing the commission (as amended) which he sponsored himself, or he just hates Ndokwa people simply because we are not violent. Section 2 of the amended law interprets oil producing area to mean Oil and Gas Producing Ethnic Nationalities in Delta State while sections 13(iii) and 18(vi) specify how revenues accruing to the commission should be applied in developing the Oil and Gas Producing Areas.”
