Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has made good his three million Naira-a-win promise to Rangers, who have vowed to consolidate their leadership of the Nigeria league with a win at Ikorodu United this weekend.
Governor Ugwuanyi promised three million Naira for each win by Rangers leading up to the end of the championship on October 2.
At the weekend, Rangers defeated Sunshine Stars 2-0 and will be away to Ikorodu United on Sunday in Abeokuta as the race for the league crown gathers more momentum.
“Some people said our run was a fluke, but now we already see ourselves as champions,” said defender Bright Eseme.
“The spirit in the team is so high and that is why we will beat Ikorodu United in Abeokuta.”
Rangers team manager Ezeaku Ameobi said they will win for their fans. “We need all three points at Ikorodu. We must give that game our all and we will deliver.
“Under the rain or the sun the fans have stood behind this team. We can’t thank them enough”, he said.
The Lagos club have already been relegated and they will only have their pride to play for. But Rangers acting chairman Steve Oruruo still predicted a difficult game at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
“We respect Ikorodu, they are a dangerous side because they are now playing for nothing,” he said.
“It will be a very difficult match because there are a lot of expectations on Rangers.”
“But we are prepared to face all challenges. We are on course to win the league.”
