In line with its commitment towards encouraging entrepreneurial development and supporting home grown talent, Diamond Bank has lent its support to the “Aso Villa Demo Day”, an initiative designed by the Presidency to boost technology and encourage innovative ideas.
The event, which was held at the State House, Abuja was aimed at celebrating the creativity of Nigerians and encourage innovative ideas and entrepreneurial drive with a focus on economic diversification and inclusive enterprise by young Nigerians.
The event had the backing of Diamond Bank, Sahara Group and Airtel among other companies and was graced by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, the Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and the Chairman of Diamond Bank, Dr. Chris Ogbechie among others.
Earlier on, the Federal Government had selected top 30 Nigerians among hundreds that pitched at three different events in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt in June 23rd, 25th and 29th respectively. The top 30 selected finalists were finally hosted at the Presidency, Aso Rock, where three winners emerged.
Each of the winners, Tracology, a patented smart payment systems for utility companies; RecyclePoints, a waste recycling and social benefit venture for sustainable development, and Shuttlers, a multi-staff bus service to assist commuters resolve daily challenges around big cities, got N3 million grant each to develop their ideas.
Speaking at the event, Professor Osinbajo said the federal government was considering a partnership with Facebook in a bid to improve Information Communication Technology (ICT) connectivity in Africa.
