Wike calls for govt, Police synergy

By Jimitota Onoyume

PORT HARCOURT— Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has urged the Police to work smoothly with his government to effectively stamp out crime from the state.

The governor, who made the appeal, yesterday, when the new Commissioner of Police in the state,  Mr Francis Odesanya, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt, said that the synergy will help to consolidate the gains so far recorded in crime prevention.

He enjoined the Police under the command of the new Commissioner of Police to be apolitical,  saying that he should ensure that his men were professional in all their operations, particularly during the re-run elections.

The governor assured that his administration will continue to support the Police to do their job effectively in the state,  adding that it will release additional 100 vehicles to the command.

“If anyone uses instruments of state to rig elections,  we will  not fold our hands. In the past one year, we had bought over 100 vehicles for security  agencies.  We will  always support  the police  to improve  security.

“We have  to work together  to  fight crime. I am happy  with  the  level of  policing  in the state which has reduced  the level  of  crime,” Wike added.
