A suspended female member of Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Kemi Popola was yesterday at the premises of Brazilian High Commission, arrested by men of Interpol, Force CID, Alagbon Close, Lagos for being in possession of fake club documents and forged bank statement of account which she uses to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.
Investigations revealed that the suspect alongside her accomplish, Blessing Nwanelu who is on the run, used the fake documents to apply for visa for none members of the club to enable them travel to Brazil for the Olympics Games which was detected by the Embassy staff who reported them to the Police.
It was also discovered that apart from forging the documents, they included the phone number of the Secretary General of the club in the document to make it look genuine without his permission.
The suspect who said she belonged to the impeached acting National chairman, Vincent Okumagba’s group stated that she was introduced to the act by her principal partner Blessing Nwanelu.
Confirming the arrest, acting Public Relations Officer of the club Afeeez Balogun, noted that she is part of the dissident group that are out to tarnish the image of the club by not only deceiving unsuspecting members of the public but also engaging in human trafficking; saying that the club will not allow them succeed in their act.
“It is unfortunate that this is happening but we are not surprised because she is part of the dissident group that are out to tarnish the good image of the club but we will not allow them succeed in their plans.”
He noted that despite the sad incident, the Brazilian Embassy has assured the club that members will be issued with visas to enable them travel to Brazil and support Team Nigeria at the Olympics just as he appealed to the Sports Minister to be mindful of those he is dealing with in the club in order not to tarnish his image.
