‘One Lagos Brand will promote people’s unique heritage’

Lagos state commissioner  for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Folorunsho Folarin – Coker, said  that the  One Lagos brand campaign  will showcase the true spirit of Lagos through different creative  expressions.

Speaking on the launch which comes up today as part of the  build up to the celebration of Lagos State at 50 , Folarin – Coker said they intend   leveraging on the City’s abundant soft power in an attempt to reverse the  negative conversation while celebrating the  people, places and the unique heritage of Lagos.

The Tourism commissioner  noted that activities to herald the event which commenced  on Wednesday  will climax with the official launch today.

“The brand will leverage on the best of the most populous black city, the second largest film industry on the globe, the richest City in Africa and the fashion, technological, design and aviation hub in Africa.”

Folarin – Coker added  that the One Lagos  brand was conceived to drive economic growth across all communities in Lagos by ensuring that  “we   take advantage of our population, its density, its wealth and its culture by focusing attention on community consumption to grow and deepen Lagos tourism assets.

Folarin-Coker, whose ministry is spearheading the programme, said “One Lagos” brand is in   furtherance of  Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s determination to drive the State’s economy using Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment and Sports for Excellence.”

The  3-day event  kicked off  Wednesday with performances by top rated music star artistes, comedy shows, cultural displays, dance competitions, models on the fashion runway and kids’ entertainment segments.

This celebration will continue on a monthly basis with a series of scheduled events up till the celebration of Lagos State @ 50 and beyond.
