Lagos  lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, Prof Ralph Akinfeleye of University of Lagos, among other prominent personalities, yesterday, called for a democratic restructuring of the polity for the country to move forward.

They spoke at the public lecture organized by Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lagos State Council, to mark the 23rd anniversary of the annulment of June 12, presidential election.

Falana, who was the guest speaker at the event, described the present democratic dispensation as “rickety”, even as he faulted the appointment of sole administrators by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the 57 councils in the state.

According to him, “We have been having series of restructuring in Nigeria since 1999 and all we have been having are rickety democracy.

“Restructuring of Nigeria should be decided by Nigerians and not by charlatans. And there can not be restructuring without democratization and the Federal Government from Abuja should shelve power to the states for even development to take place.”

Akinfeleye, who spoke in the same vein with Falana, described Nigeria’s democracy as adulterated.

He therefore, charged the judiciary and Nigeria media to take up the gauntlet in restoring Nigeria from the brink of total collapse.
