*Plans friendly with West Ham, top Chinese club
FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s technical adviser, Mitko Dobrev, has been handed a whopping N100 million war chest to rejuvenate the team during the mid-season break.
This is one of the major steps taken by the management of the club to keep the team on track towards the realization of the set objectives this season – top of which is winning the league or a continental ticket at the very least.
The Bulgarian has been given the approval and necessary financial backing to hire top quality players to strengthen the weak departments in the team after a review of the team’s performance in the first stanza of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) season.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah is also billed to play some high-profile international friendly matches during the break.
Top on the card is a planned friendly game with English Premier League side, West Ham United FC next week Sunday.
Further arrangements are being finalised for another friendly match against a top Chinese Super League side.
The games against West Ham and the Chinese club would enable Dobrev to blend the team ahead of the second stanza of the NPFL season.
Unfolding the plans, Chairman of the club, Mr. Chukwuma Ubah said that the team is a work in progress and will not rest on its oars until the realisation of FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s dreams.
Ubah said: “The team has not done badly so far in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season. There were some unimpressive results, especially on the road. But as a positive thinking team, we will definitely be doing a bit of business to strengthen the team during the mid-season.
“We have invested in the club and we will continue to invest in it because we have our set objectives. We have given Dobrev the free hand and the necessary funds to bolster the team with new players during the break. We are not stopping at that. We have also arranged some high profile friendly matches with some foreign clubs we are finalising partnerships with.
“FC Ifeanyi Ubah will play against West Ham United FC and then one of the big teams in the Chinese Super League. It is a big package which we hope to build on, in partnership with these international clubs for mutual benefits”.
“We are front-runners for the league title. Although we experienced some hiccups after we topped the table, we want to fortify and re-launch our target. The second stanza will demand a lot of hard work from everybody in the team. The management is working very hard and so we expect all hands to be on deck,” Ubah said.
