ENUGU—The Enugu State Government,Monday, assured 153 disengaged staff of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology,ESUT,of full payment of outstanding salaries and other entitlements, owed by the University.
This came on a day, government revealed that it has made fruitful efforts to provide and improve necessary infrastructure and facilities for the upgrade of the Institute of Management and Technology,IMT, into a degree awarding institution and also intervened to rescue the Institute from the crumbling weight of salary arrears and resultant low staff morale.
In his Democracy Day speech delivered after an interdenominational church service at the Micheal Okpara Square yesterday,Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State pledged that, “rather than allow the severe economic recession occasioned by the negative developments in the oil sector, deter us from achieving our goals, we will instead, turn the situation into an opportunity to look inwards and harness those potentials which free oil money has blinded and prevented us from exploiting all the while.
Reeling out some of his achievements under the year in review, Ugwuanyi explained that,”Government has profiled 14 moribund state-owned companies and agencies for privatization and commercialization. We are hopeful that investors will soon take advantage of this great opportunity.”
