Lagos lawyer and socialite, Fred Ajudua yesterday turned himself in for arraignment six months after his accomplice, Mrs Ronke Rosulu was convicted for defrauding former Chief of Army Staff, Gen Ishaya Bamaiyi, (retd) of $330,000. Rosulu, who until her arraignment and conviction was a Registrar with the Lagos judiciary, was convicted by Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo for her role in the $330,000 fraud perpetrated by Bamaiyi and others.
He was earlier docked with Rosulu for conspiracy to obtain money under false pretence. Ajudua, who had earlier challenged the propriety and powers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to bring him to court was formally docked on 28-count charge of fraud to which he had pleaded not guilty before Justice Kudirat Jose.
He was re-arraigned over alleged obtaining a sum of 8.4 million dollars out of the money allegedly obtained fraudulently from the former Army Chief while they were both in Kirikiri maximum prison. Presently, Ajudua will be facing a 28 count charge which he had pleaded not guilty to.
The court has however set aside September 15, 20, 21 and 22, 2016 for the trial. It would be recalled that Ajudua was alleged to have obtained the said sum under the pretence of giving it to justice Oyewole through Chief Afe Babalola, SAN to facilitate Bamaiyi’s freedom when he was facing trial for his alleged role in the attempted murder of Mr Alex Ibru, the late Guardian Publisher.
