UPU lauds Ijaw youths over Ese Oruru’s release

Yenagoa—Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, yesterday lauded the commitment of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, in advocating the freedom of Ese Oruru.

Miss Oruru, a minor, was allegedly abducted by Mr. Yunusa Dahiru in August 2015 from Bayelsa State and taken to Kano State where she was forced into a marriage.

She was rescued by the police in March and returned to Bayelsa State while Dahiru was on March 8, 2016,  charged with abduction, kidnapping and sexual exploitation by the police.

Parents of the 14-year-old Oruru and executives of Bayelsa chapter of UPU lauded the support of IYC in securing the release of the minor during a thank-you visit to President of IYC in Yenagoa.
