Nigerian fitters fault exclusion of members in Dangote refinery project

By Lucky Oji

The Fitters Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, FISAN, has faulted the exclusion and non employment of Nigerian fitters in the ongoing construction of the $14 billion Dangote Oil Refinery,   saying it is total violation of the country’s Local Content Act.

FISAN, in a statement signed by its   general secretary, Comrade Morrister Pius Idibra, also reaffirmed that Nigerian   Fitters are competent and more qualified than most expatriates already engaged in the construction of the refinery, and called on Alhaji Aliko Dangote to ensure Nigerian fitters are employed.

Idibra, lamented that “ we have been informed that no single Nigerian fitter is working there, this is unacceptable, even when over 200 expatriate fitters have been engaged to the detriment of Nigerian fitters, Alhaji Dangote should not allow such to prevail”.

FISAN also faulted the Project Consultant for Dangote refinery, Mr. Babajide Shodoye, for allegedly saying Nigerian firms lack capacity to deliver, wondering if there are no competent fitters also in Nigeria.
