Vice President, Board of Appeal Committee of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, Mazi Amanze Uchegbulam has dismissed the reconciliation committee set up by Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung to reconcile the various warring factions in Nigerian football headed by former Chairman of NFA, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima.
“Who and who are they reconciling with?’’, Uchegbulam, who was a one time Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation under Lulu Abdullahi asked.
“I don’t want to preempt the workings of the Committee made up of eminent Nigerians. But, they must first of all respect the rules. And what it means is that they should sanction those who are guilty of bringing shame to Nigerian football. Chris Giwa should be punished and told to withdraw whatever case he has in court against Nigerian football. We must respect laws and punish the offenders. That is the only thing left for them to do. If not, the Reconciliation Committee will be going round in circles’’, Uchegbulam emphasised.
Members of the Reconciliation Committee are: Ibrahim Galadima (chairman), Tijani Yusuf, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, Musa Amadu, Paul Bassey, Okey Obi and Carol Nkem Ojukwu.
Before this time, the Sports Minister had tried reconciling NFF President Amaju Pinnick and Chris Giwa and it took the intervention of the Minister before they exchanged fisticuffs.
Inaugurating the Reconciliation Committee on Tuesday, the Minister tasked the group to find a way forward in the present NFF crisis and to co-opt members, interface and reach out to anybody who can be of assistance to achieving their mandate. “Nigerians are gradually being factionalised into these two camps so you must put the country’s interest above personal interest,” the Minister said.
The reconciliation committee has one week to submit its report.
